Hi! I'm Scott. I have been a professional musician and instructor since 2017. I studied music education and percussion at Eastern Michigan University, graduating with my Bachelor's in 2020. 

 

I'll never forget an impactful quote from my percussion professor at Eastern. He said, "Never think of yourself as 'just a percussionist.' Rather, think of yourself as a musician who plays percussion." 

 

This statement is empowering, and it has shaped my teaching approach. Not only are percussionists just as valuable as any other instrumentalist, we are also just as much a musician. I apply this mindset to my teaching - establishing a culture of musicianship. I want the student to love playing their instrument. 

 

My aim is to not only develop technical skills, but also overall musical instincts. My philosophy centers on fostering creativity, and using that to fuel motivation to get better! I will strive to create a fun, laid back environment for the student to feel comfortable expressing themselves musically. Meanwhile, a newfound love for playing should push the student to practice and improve on their abilities.

 

Whether young or older, beginner or advanced, I would be honored to be a part of a musical journey.
